Known as the “Pearl of the South,” Ponce is the best location for your destination wedding with it’s easygoing spirit and small town charm. The quaint square and narrow streets of the city’s historic center are reminiscent of those found throughout Europe. It is one of the most picturesque destinations in Puerto Rico, surrounded by luscious mountains and the Gulf of Mexico.

The wedding venue possibilities are endless in Ponce. If your fantasy is a beach wedding, there are plenty of beaches to choose from! No need to get sand in your shoes, you can hold your ceremony on a dock overlooking glittering water. For a more rustic feel, why not say “I Do” in the mountains surrounded by lush jungle? The Ponce Cathedral offers an elegant and historic setting for a more traditional ceremony. You can even feel like a princess by having your ceremony in the Castillo Serralles atop a hill, with a vista overlooking the town of Ponce and all the way out to the sea.

Puerto Rican food is filled with flavor but not spicy. The most iconic dish is mofongo, which is a mound of mashed fried green plantain stuffed with a variety of fillings. Puerto Rico’s official dish is asopao, a hearty soup made with chicken, rice, sofrito and vegetables. Lechón, or roast suckling pig, is the best of Puerto Rican cooking. The quintessential food-on-the-go is empanadillas, or turnovers. They can be filled with anything from beef to seafood to cheese.

Any exploration of Ponce must start at the Plaza de las Delicias, the city’s central square. It’s home to the iconic red-and-black fire station, Ponce Cathedral, and bubbling lion fountains. The Ponce Museum of Art is home to the finest collection of European art in the Caribbean (over 4,500 pieces), including the acclaimed “Flaming June” by Sir Frederic Leighton. Take in the spectacular view of the city and learn a little about its storied history at the Castillo Serralles, a mansion-turned-museum belonging to the family behind Don Q Rum. End your day soaking in the sunset and eating empanadillas at the beachfront boardwalk La Guancha.
